Let’s hop in our metaphorical time machine and take a trip down memory lane.

On May 31, 1938 Donald Eugene Lytle was born in Greenfield, Ohio. You probably know him better as Johnny Paycheck. Paycheck was a member of the Grand Ole Opry, and is most famously know for his recording of the David Allan Coe song ‘Take this Job and Shove It’. The song reached the top of the Country chart in 1978. Johnny Paycheck passed away in February of 2003.

On May 31, 1978 the top spot on the Country chart was being held by Kenny Rogers and Dottie West. The duo topped the chart with their album ‘Every Time Two Fools Collide’. The album produced two big country hits: the title track which reached #1, and ‘Anyone Who Isn’t Me Tonight’ which peaked at the #2 spot.

On May 31, 1994 Tim McGraw was sitting atop the Country chart with his song ‘Don’t Take the Girl’. The song was written by Craig Martin and Larry W. Johnson. It was McGraw’s fifth single overall, and his first #1 song on the Hot Country Songs chart. ‘Don’t Take the Girl’ also reached #17 on the Hot 100 Pop chart.
