On June 28, 1924 George Morgan was born in Waverly, Tennessee. Morgan was best know for his number one hit in 1949, ‘Candy Kisses’. Morgan was also the last person to sing on the stage at the Ryman Auditorium in 1974. After his performance the Grand Ole Opry moved in to the new Grand Ole Opry House. Bringing it all full circle, Morgan was then the first person to sing on the stage at the new venue only a week later. George Morgan passed away on July 7, 1975.
On June 28, 1966 Merle Haggard was at the Capitol Recording Studio recording his song ‘The Bottle Let Me Down’. The song would release later that year in August, as a single. ‘The Bottle Let Me Down’ would go on to peak at the number three spot on the US Billboard Hot Country Singles chart.
On June 28, 1986 Kellie Pickler was born in Albemarle, North Carolina. Pickler gained her fame as a contestant on the fifth season of the popular television show ‘American Idol’. After the show, Pickler would go on to release her debut album Small Town Girl. The album featured three singles that made it on to the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. Those singles include: ‘Red High Heels’, ‘I Wonder’, and ‘Things That Never Cross a Man’s Mind’.
On June 28, 2010 the US Country Chart was being topped by Miranda Lambert with ‘The House that Built Me’. The song was written by Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin. Lambert would win a Grammy for Best Female County Vocal Performance for the song as well. The song was originally set to be recorded by Blake Shelton, but after hearing it Labert immediately wanted to record it for herself. It featured as the third single from her third studio album, Revolution.
