Randy Travis has a new song. Well sort of. It’s a new old song. Randy Travis recorded, Fool’s Love Affair in the 80s before he had a record deal. The song has a history. A music publisher by the name of Charlie Monk had written the song and was looking for someone to create a demo out of it so he could present it to other publishers.

According to a report, Monk believed in the potential of Randy’s talent and brought Randy Travis into the studio to record the song. Monk presented the demo to lots of artists but did not find anyone to record it. At the time, artists were more interested in crossover hit type of country songs.

Monk held on to the copy for years and finally, quietly, began playing it on a satellite radio show. Of course, fans contacted this radio looking to buy a copy but at the time it was unavailable for purchase because it had never been officially released. After Randy Travis suffered a stroke, Monk sent Randy and his wife a copy of the song.

Randy’s producer, Kyle Lehning wanted the original so it could be reprocessed to improve the sound quality. Monk searched through an old office and then old boxes. It had been 30 years since Randy Travis did the original recording. Finally, Monk found the tape in a tiny box labeled with the words, “Fool’s Love Affair.”
