Spotlight Weekend: Brooks and Dunn

Mustang 1071 is shining the spotlight on Brooks & Dunn this weekend!

Kix Brooks is a native of Shreveport Louisiana. At one time, his next-door neighbor was  Johnny Horton. Brooks moved to Nashville in the 1980s to work as a songwriter. He wrote hit songs for John Conlee, Highway 101, and The Oak Ridge Boys.

Ronnie Dunn is from Coleman, Texas. During his high school years, he played bass guitar in a local band. When he graduated, he attended Hardin-Simmons University and studied theology planning to become a Baptist preacher. The school released him from the program because he played in bars on the weekends. Eventually, Dunn won an opportunity to record music in Nashville.

Brooks and Dunn were introduced to each other by a record executive who thought they could write songs together. The two recorded a demo and soon, they were known as Brooks and Dunn.
