Let’s hop in our metaphorical time machine and take a trip down memory lane.

On June 14, 1961 legendary country artist Patsy Cline was seriously injured in a car accident. The accident occurred outside of Madison High School in Nashville, Tennessee. Cline was hospitalized for two months due to the injuries she suffered. During her stay in the hospital, Cline’s song ‘I Fall to Pieces’ reached number one on the country charts. ‘I Fall to Pieces’ was Cline’s first number one hit of her career. The song also became a hugely popular country pop crossover hit.

On June 14, 1995 the only son of Johnny Cash and June Carter-Cash, John Carter-Cash, was married in Hendersonville, Tennessee. John Carter-Cash married Mary Ann Joska, and did so in a very nontraditional way, wearing a full white suit for the ceremony. In attendance for the wedding was long time friend of the family Waylon Jennings.

On June 14, 1997 LeAnne Rimes and Trish Yearwood had their versions of ‘How Do I Live’ debut on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Both versions would go on to see good success. LeAnne Rimes’ version, which was also featured in the hit film Coyote Ugly, made its way to number two on the chart, and spent a record breaking 69 weeks on the chart. That record stood until 2009 when Jason Mraz’s ‘I’m Yours’ passed Rimes. Trish Yearwood would see her version of ‘How Do I Live’ climb all the way to number two on the Country song chart.

On June 14, 2013 California State University presented an honorary doctorate to country music icon Merle Haggard. Haggard received the doctor of fine arts honor, the first of its kind in California State University history. The honor was conferred during the School of Arts and Humanities commencement ceremonies.
