Let’s hop in our metaphorical time machine and take a trip down memory lane.

On May 22, 1970 Merle Haggard’s album Okie from Muskogee was at #1 on the Country music album chart. The year prior, the same album won the Academy of Country Music award for Album of the Year. Haggard also received Single of the Year for ‘Okie from Muskogee’, as well as winning Top Male Vocalist of the Year.

Moving into the 90’s, on May 22, 1993 CBS aired Willie Nelson The Big Six-0: An All-Star Birthday Celebration. The TV special included: Waylon Jennings, Ray Charles, B.B. King, Travis Tritt, Paul Simon, Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, Marty Stuart, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Kris Kristofferson, and Bob Dylan as guests.

On this day in 2011 Reba McEntire was officially inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. The induction took place at a Medallion Ceremony at the Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee. Reba was inducted by her musical idol Dolly Parton.
