On May 28, 1956 Jerry Douglas was born in Warren, Ohio. Douglas is a lap steel player and music producer. He has worked with artist like: Ray Charles, Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss, and Clint Black. Throughout his career Douglas received 13 Grammy Awards and he has won the Country Music Association’s ‘Musician of the Year’ award three times.
Eight years later on May 28, 1964 in Lynchburg, Virginia Phil Vassar was born. Vassar is a singer/songwriter who has co-written singles for many country music artists. Those artists include: Tim McGraw, Jo Dee Messina, Collin Raye, and Alan Jackson. Later in his career, 1999, Vassar was named ‘Country Songwriter of the Year’ by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.
On May 28, 1999 the Country Music album chart was being topped by Clint Black and ‘Killin Time’. ‘Killin Time’ was Black’s debut album. It featured hits like ‘A Better Man’, ‘Walking Away’, ‘Nobody’s Home’, and the title track ‘Killin Time’.
