Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz Reunite in Upcoming Thriller ‘Day Drinker’
Johnny Depp is set to return to the big screen in the upcoming action thriller Day Drinker, directed by Marc Webb and produced by Lionsgate. The film marks Depp’s first major studio project since 2018’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. In Day Drinker, Depp portrays Kelly, a mysterious guest aboard a private yacht who becomes entangled with bartender Lorna, played by Madelyn Cline. Their encounter leads them into a complex web involving criminal figure Cara Lauzzana, portrayed by Penélope Cruz.
This project reunites Depp and Cruz, who have previously collaborated on films such as Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Murder on the Orient Express. Director Marc Webb, known for The Amazing Spider-Man and Disney’s live-action Snow White, expressed enthusiasm about the film’s production, stating, “We’re in a beautiful location with a fantastic crew and a thrilling, ferocious story to tell.”
Filming commenced in Spain on April 14, 2025, with additional cast members including Manu Ríos, Arón Piper, Juan Diego Botto, and Anika Boyle. Day Drinker is anticipated to be a significant addition to Depp’s filmography, showcasing his return to major studio productions.
