Here’s What Craig Wall Thinks About Midland’s New Album

Keeping It Rolling by Craig Wall

When it comes to the new Midland album “Let it Roll” there’s really only one question that needs to be answered, “If you aren’t listening to this album, what are you doing with your life?”

Midland burst onto the scene back in 2017 with their debut “On the Rocks.” With a sound that was part ‘80s Urban Cowboy, part ‘90s Hot Country, the album launched two top ten singles “Drinkin’ Problem” and “Burn Out” and firmly established the trio as a counter to the more contemporary country sound that has taken over Nashville as of late.

Despite, or maybe because of, this initial success there were still questions. Would they be able to capture that throwback magic again? Would they be altered by the pop-country machine? Would they hit the dreaded sophomore slump? Fortunately, the answers are Yes, No, and most definitely not.

From the rocking “Mr. Lonely” to the heartbreaking “I Love You, Goodbye” Midland delivers what is easily the best country album of the year. Put George Strait, Dwight Yoakum, the Eagles, and Alabama in a blender and you have “Let It Roll.” But don’t take my word for it, give it a spin yourself. If you have been wondering where real country music has gone to look no further.

Best Cuts:

Cheatin’ Songs (I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to it already, but it’s still not enough)

Mr. Lonely

Every Song’s a Drinkin’ Song

Cheatin’ by the Rules (reminds me of Wesley Dennis’ “Don’t Make Me Feel at Home”)

Fourteen Gears

Put the Hurt on Me
