Wendy’s Jumping Into the Crowded Breakfast War

The most important meal of the day, some would say breakfast. Let’s face it with our busy lifestyles sometimes the best and quickest meal is on the go. Hit the drive-through, grab a cup of java and something you can hold in your hand always works best if you have to drive and eat.

We have so many options for a quick breakfast on the go. The revenue generated by serving breakfast is appealing to many businesses since there is and will always be a demand for breakfast. Some would say the current state of breakfast offerings would be crowded.

Wendy’s is not looking at the crowded landscape of fast-food competitors offering breakfast, the hamburger restaurant is drawn into the crowded breakfast war arena by the money you and I spend on breakfast “on the go”. If Wendy’s can capture just 1% of the money being spend on breakfast, this would be considered a big hit! And Wendy’s will need a big hit! They are dropping a $20 million investment into breakfast. According to QSR, the fast-food restaurant plans to hire an additional 20,000 employees nationwide to accommodate the new menu at their 6000+ stores.

Taking a look at some of the breakfast items Wendy’s has been testing in markets they could be on to something delicious. Taking a spin on the Baconator burger, for breakfast and for bacon lovers one new item will be The Breakfast Baconator, this baby will have an egg, six strips of Applewood smoked bacon, one breakfast sausage patty and two slices of American cheese, all topped with a cheesy hollandaise sauce. By the way of keeping with Wendy’s tradition, the sausage patty will be square.

Coffee? Of course, you’ll have your cup of coffee, but of course, Wendy’s has to put a twist on their coffee. Frozen coffee anyone? You know that they have to use their popular frozen desert Frosty. Introducing the Frosty-ccino combines cold coffee with either chocolate or vanilla Frosty cream and there you have a tasty iced or frozen coffee.

According to NBC, Wendy’s is betting $20 million this roll out of a breakfast menu does better then the first time breakfast was introduced by the burger giant. In the 1980s, Wendy’s tried the breakfast menu with made to order fresh eggs, french toast, and breakfast sandwiches. The time it took to make the menu items back then was too time consuming and was eventually dropped.

Wendy’s breakfast debuts locally in Lafayette on Monday, February 24. Stay here, I’ll sample the menu items and share my thoughts with you.
