Best Game Day Snacks for Football Season

With football season starting later this week, it’s time to have the never-ending discussion: what are the best game-day snacks?

There are many different ways to look at this conversation, from Do you want finger foods or an actual meal? Messy or clean? Spicy or mild? So on and so forth.

Here are my five favorite game-day foods:

Wings

Good ole’ chicken wings. Whether you want to do boneless or traditional, wings are a must for a football party. Boneless is easier to eat because you can just stick a fork in them or grab them with your fingers, but traditional is exactly that: tradition. As for sauces, I always go for a BBQ or chipotle-type sauce and tons of ranch.

Nachos

This is such a simple idea that you can do multiple things with and feed a bunch of people. Whether you do beef, chicken, pork, etc, nachos are a delicious option for your football party.

Sliders

Burgers are a classic sports food. Whether it’s real life, movies, tv shows, etc., there’s almost always a person eating a burger watching sports. However, if you make them even more handheld, you still get the great taste without the hassle. Burger sliders have become very popular over the last several years and are another simple option to feed your guests.

Dip

You can never go wrong with chips and dip. Salsa, queso, guac, seven-layer, etc will always be a favorite for game days. Typically easy to find and incredibly simple to serve, dips have been a go-to for decades. One of my favorite dips is a buffalo chicken dip with shredded chicken. It packs just enough spice and a strong flavor to be really good on a salty chip.

Jambalaya

Down here in South Louisiana, we know how to cook. Any time you go to a tailgate, you’re destined to find people either making a jambalaya, gumbo, or both (depending on the time of year). So when you’re hosting a party, make a smaller jambalaya that’ll still feed everyone there without having too many leftovers after the fact.
