Small children are all too often present when law enforcement is called in to handle a tense situation. This is stressful and hard for kids to deal with. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office has instituted a program to ease the problem. They’re providing patrols with Teddy Bears to give to small children in these situations.
Some deputies have purchased stuffed animals out of their own pockets to give out in these circumstances. They say the stuffed animals are effective in calming kid’s nerves and building trust. A smilar program was successfully intiated in Jefferson Parish and St. Mary Parish followed suit.
