Christmas is busy and hectic. Lots of people have turned to ordering gift online and unfortunately, online shopping is commonplace for fraudulent activity.

A recent AARP survey indicates 75% of shoppers have experienced fraud. A similar percentage of respondents failed a safe shopping quiz. More than 30% of shoppers report they’ve been defrauded online.

Scammers will build websites that look legitimate, offering discounts that seem too good to be true. They usually are. If the site offers an unbelievable discount, compare it to what others are offering. It’s best to shop from familiar retailers.

Porch pirates are busy this time of year. 25% of online shoppers have had parcels stolen from their front porches. Check and see if the retailer has a place where your parcel can be held. Another idea is to have it left with a neighbor who’s always home Ask if the package is placed in a location that’s not visible from the street.

Beware of gift card scams. Hackers can drain the balance of gift cards on store racks. It’s wisest to purchase them online.
These tips will hopefully help you avoid being a victim this holiday season.
