Modern technology enables people to great things…and some not so great things. The Better Business bureau warns of a texting scam, in which the scammer poses as people’s employers.

The scammer knows your name, where you work, and your boss’s name. This information is easily obtained through the internet, especially social media.

The scammer will send a message posing as your boss & say they’re tied up in a meeting or conference call. They’ll then make an unusual request, like purchasing gift cards for a client, wiring money, or something else a boss wouldn’t typically ask an employee to do.

If you don’t recognize the number, that’s a red flag. The BBB recommends checking with your boss directly. Don’t respond if you suspect it’s a scam.
