Bo’s Extravaganza 2019

Bo’s Extravaganza was a unique celebration that took place over the weekend at John Schneider Studios in Holden, LA. The property winds along the beautiful Tickfaw River and was once the home of Camp Singing Waters. Now it’s home to John and his plethora of projects which include making movies and recording music.

This 2-day festival celebrated John’s 59th birthday and the 40th Anniversary of the hit TV show: The Dukes of Hazzard.

The weekend’s event kicked off with a press conference in the Moonshine Barn on Friday afternoon. John Schneider joined us to discuss the weekend’s events. When asked about his inspiration for “Bo’s Extravaganza”, John told me that it was his intention to put together an event that has something for everyone. And that it did. The weekend’s festivities include food, carnival rides, a car show, stunt shows, knife throwing, a hood sliding competition, and lots of music.

John was quick to remind me that this was also a birthday present to himself. He planned on getting all the musicians in his studio to write songs with him. Who knows what these guys will cook up?

While I went for the music, the car show was perhaps the first thing that grabbed my attention. The car show featured over 60 General Lees including dozens of the classic orange 1969 Dodge Chargers and another dozen or so of updated General Lees with the newer body style. Not to be limited by body style, there were 4×4 trucks, a big rig, a Porsche named Genny Lee, and even an airboat, all sporting those famous General Lee colors.

There were even more movie cars including the famous Daisy Duke Jeep and her yellow 1964 Roadrunner, a couple 1973 Plymouth Satellite police cars, the 1977 Trans-AM from Smokey and the Bandit, several 1963 Volkswagen Beatles complete with #53 decals, and even The Mystery Machine. Butch Patrick brought along his Munster Coach and Dragula cars.

Joining John this weekend to celebrate was Tom Wopat (Luke Duke), Byron Cherry (Coy Duke), Butch Patrick (Eddie Munster), and even some of his cast mates from his current series Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots.

Musical acts included Jo-El Sonnier, Bo Bice, Whey Jennings, and Kid Rock, whose performance moved up to avoid the thunderstorms that were forecast to roll in on Sunday evening.

Bo’s Extravaganza is one of 4 annual events that are planned to take place at John Schneider Studios. The other events are Halloween, Christmas, and a Film Festival.
