Peter Robbins, the actor who voiced Charlie Brown in the iconic Peanuts cartoons from the 1960s, has died. He was 65.

His family reported that he took his own life last week.

Robbins began voicing Charlie Brown in 1963 when he was just 9 years old. He appeared in both “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. He also appeared in other TV series including “Get Smart” and “The Munsters.”

KSWB’s Phil Lauer has followed Robbins through his ups and downs. Robbins has been to prison for criminal threats made against several people and has been to rehab for a drugs and alcohol addiction.

The last interview KSWB had with Robbins was in 2019, where he spoke about his lifelong battle with mental illness.

“I would recommend to anybody that has bipolar disorder to take it seriously because your life can turn around in the span of a month like it did to me,” Robbins said during the interview. “I came out of prison and I’m a better person for it. I’m much more humble and grateful and thankful that I lived through the experience.”

Robbin’s family is asking for privacy during this time. There will be a memorial service held for him at a later date.
