UPDATE: Comeaux High School Student, Matt Carter has passed away from his injuries. Matt Carter, a 17-year-old high school senior, was shot early Saturday morning by two juveniles who attempted to rob him. The individuals are still in police custody and charges have been upgraded to first-degree murder.

A Comeaux High football player is in the hospital following an attempted robbery. Matt Carter, a 17-year old senior, received a gunshot wound to the head when carjackers tried to take his vehicle. Reportedly, the carjackers are just 13 and 14 years old. Police were called just after midnight and Matt was rushed to the hospital.
Matt Carter is critically injured and clinging to his life at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. He is surrounded by family, friends, teammates, and classmates. A prayer vigil was held outside of the hospital on Monday night. The family has expressed appreciation for the overwhelming support.
According to a post on Facebook, a blood drive has been set up in Matt’s name at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. Any blood donated will help with Matt Carter’s medical bills.
