Food Myths Debunked

Food. Can it be frozen once it has thawed? Is raw vegetables better than cooked? This article Five Second Rule – Telegraph debunks common food myths.

Growing up mom used to say to us, ” Eat to live, do not live to Eat.”

It is a constant battle trying to eating healthy and eating something tasty.  Plus, on top of that, you have to watch how much you eat.  For the longest time, I was toting around and scarfing down almonds and sunflower seeds because I assumed nuts and seeds were healthy! Then I noticed my jeans were getting tighter. Apparently fat is fat, and even healthy fat will put on weight.  It’s crazy how eating healthy will still put pounds on you.  I guess it is just creating a balance.   But still, when Friday night rolls around, my kids and I love to go to Walmart to get frozen pizza, ice cream, chips and salsa then watch Netflix all night.  Food feels like an obsession at times.  At times I think the only reason I exercise is to eat more. Ugh.

Well, if you are on diets and off diets, here are few myths that have been debunked by scientists.  For one, you no longer have to feel guilty because you let your toddler eat that chip  that dropped in the grass. New research has determined that the 5-second should now be the 30 minute rule.  Food can sit on the ground for 30 minutes without picking up potentially dangerous bacteria.  And yes! Frozen fruit and veggies are just as nutritious as fresh and raw produce.  And just like fat is fat, sugar is sugar. The body processes sugar the same way.  Agave syrup, honey maple syrup, white sugar or brown sugar are all the same.  So if your doctor suggests that you should limit sugar, this includes apples, bananas and dates.
