Here’s How To See The Geminid Meteor Shower

The Geminid Meteor shower is happening now and it can be viewed from any position on planet Earth. The best time of night to see the shower is around 2 am. It doesn’t mean that you won’t see a multitude of falling stars in the early evening. It’s just easier during the middle of the night because the shower is most radiant at that time. According to Earth Sky, there are few things to do to help your chances in see this magical event.

First of all, if you are absolutely serious about seeing a meteor fall out of the sky, you will need a dark open sky. A spot in a rural area is ideal when it comes to stargazing. The best time to see a falling star is around 2 am. You may want to brew a pot of coffee and set an alarm to wake yourself up. It’s a good idea to bring a friend with you. The more the merrier! And you both can monitor different sides of the sky. If you see one, yell, meteor so you both will be able to witness the magic rock.

You will also have to be patient. Bring a blanket, comfy clothes and snacks. It takes your eyes at least 20 minutes to adjust to the darkness. Then sit back and wait. The meteors will appear in spurts in all sections of the sky. You do not need any special equipment.

The Geminid meteor shower will peak on Sunday night, December 13 to Monday, December 14, 2020. You could see 50 meteors per hour.
