There are many qualities a city must have to make it a great place to live and raise a family. Then you have those cities that have less than appealing curb appeal which gives it a poor quality of life. Sometimes circumstances in life are things beyond your control and you may end up living in a community which has less to offer than other places with better opportunities.

24/7 Wall St. recently published the 50 worst cities to live in the country. The website used several indicators to rank the worst cities to live in. 24/& Wall St. created an index of over 20 measures to identify the worst cities in the US. Many of us are proud of our state but unfortunately, our state ended up with 5 cities on the list.

Some of the negatives a city possess to make the list are high crime rates, fewer employment opportunities, poverty and little in the way of entertainment options.

The cities from Louisiana to make the list include-

  • #40- Monroe- Poverty rate 34.8%
  • #39 Natchitoches – Poverty rate 44.7%
  • #22 Bogalusa- Poverty rate 36.3%
  • #16 Hammond – Poverty rate 34.1%
  • #7 Bastrop – Poverty rate 43.5%

The #1 worst place live in is Mendota, CA – Poverty rate 49.5%

Reviewing the methodology of the survey, 24/7 Wall St. created a weighted index of more than 20 categories which would fall into one of the four categories including affordability, economy, quality of life, and community. Examining each category, some factors played a huge role in the outcome for the final list including unemployment and poverty rates. Plus the availability of jobs available for the population.
