Louisiana’s music was well represented at the at the 61st annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night.
Louisiana artists covered the spectrum with nominations in various categories. We know Louisiana is a melting pot with a potpourri of music ranging from jazz to rock to Christian and blues. All of this homegrown music was in the national spotlight Sunday night.
The 61st Annual Academy Awards show was televised from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Six Louisiana artists brought home a total of 7 awards from Music’s Biggest Night.
Lauren Daigle won two Grammys for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album and Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance. Daigle has other awards to her credit including two Billboard Music Awards and two American Music Awards. Daigle is currently on tour with coming shows in Washinton and California.
PJ Morton, from New Orleans, won the Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance. Morton is also a member of Maroon 5.
Scoring his eighth piece of hardware to add to his trophy case was Louisiana Native Buddy Guy for the Best Traditional Blues Album.
Jazz trumpeter and composer Terence Blanchard won his sixth Grammy in Best Instrumental Composition. Blanchard is from New Orleans.
Shreveport native Brian Blade scored his third Grammy for Best Instrumental Jazz Album.
Adding to the Louisiana spotlight of winners was the drummer from New Orleans band High on Fire, Des Kensel scoring a Grammy for the Best Metal Performance.
Fortunately for you and me, we never have to look far to enjoy Grammy award-winning music in our home state.
