Starting Monday, February 8, more people in Louisiana will eligible to receive the vaccination for COVID-19 that’s according to a report.

Governor John Bel Edwards announced in a briefing that the vaccination will be available to a wider range of people. This Monday, anyone 65 and older will now be allowed to get vaccinated for COVID-19. Eligibility also extends to first responders, election workers, state officials, and the unified command group.

According to the statement, Louisiana is participating in the Federal Retail Pharmacy program. This means the vaccine will available through certain Walmart locations. You will still have to make an appointment to get vaccinated. Be sure to contact the facility before arriving.

If you are worried about the supply, don’t be! There should be enough doses to cover most people. The federal government sent the state a notice they were going to increase the number of doses sent to our state. This news is promising because, with the broader range of people eligible, this equates to a quarter of a million Louisianans.
