Kenny Chesney was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. His dad worked as a teacher and his mother was a hairstylist. While in high school, he played baseball and football. He taught himself how to play guitar after receiving one for Christmas. He studied advertising at East Tennessee State University. He managed to put together an album and self-produce it at a studio in Virginia in between classes. He sold a thousand copies at local bars. The money went to a new guitar. After graduation, he moved to Nashville. A friend of his convinced a music group to let Kenny Chesney audition. A year later, Kenny Chesney landed a record deal.
