On July 3, 1946 Johnny Lee was born in Texas City, Texas. Lee is best known for his 1980 song ‘Lookin for Love’. ‘Lookin for Love’ was quite successful as it spent a total of three weeks on top of the Billboard Country Singles chart. Lee would also see success with a series of other hits throughout the early and mid 1980’s; including: ‘Cherokee Fiddle’, ‘Pickin Up Strangers’, ‘When You Fall in Love’, ‘Sounds Like Love’, and ‘Rode Hard and Put Up Wet’.
On July 3, 1958 Aaron Tippin was born in Pensacola, Florida. Tippin burst on to the country music scene with his debut single ‘You’ve Got to Stand for Something’. The single would go on to become a popular anthem for American soldiers fighting in the Gulf War. Tippin saw great success in 1992 when he landed the number one hit on the US Country chart with his song ‘There Ain’t Nothin Wrong with the Radio’.
On July 3, 1980 Willie Nelson was in Austin, Texas for the world premiere showing of the film ‘Honeysuckle Rose’. Nelson starred in the film as Buck Bonham; a country singer family man struggling to make it big. The plot of the movie follows Nelson’s character as he juggles his career and life priorities.
Also on July 3, 1980 Sarah Buxton was born in Lawrence, Kansas. Buxton has one big claim to country music fame from her career. She is know for the 2012 US Country number one hit ‘Let it Rain’, with David Nail.
On July 3, 1993 the US Country Chart was being topped by Garth Brooks and his single ‘That Summer’. ‘That Summer’ was written by Sandy Mahl, Pat Alger, and Garth Brooks himself. The song featured on Brooks’ fourth studio album, The Chase. ‘That Summer’ would also appear on Brooks’ other albums: The Hits, The Ultimate Hits, The Limited Series, and Double Live.
