On May 16th, 1985 the country album chart was topped by legendary band Alabama with their album ’40-Hour Week’. The album included three singles that reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. Those singles included ‘There’s No Way’ and the title track ’40-Hour Week’. ’40-Hour Week’ would also become the groups record breaking 17th consecutive #1 single.
Jumping ahead to May 16th, 1999 the song sitting at #1 on the country music chart was ‘Please Remember Me’ by Tim McGraw. McGraw’s chart topping single was co-written by Rodney Crowell and Will Jennings. Rodney Crowell actually recorded the original version of this song in 1995.
On May 16th, 2006 at the official dinner for the Australian Prime Minister John Howard, Kenny Chesney performed two songs for the Prime Minister and President George W. Bush. Chesney performed ‘There Goes My Life’ and ‘Back Where I Come From’. The dinner was held in the East Wing of the White House.
