Today in Country Music History (May 7)

Let’s hop in our metaphorical time machine and take a trip down memory lane. How about we look at a few different songs that topped the charts on this day throughout the years.

On May 7th, 1970 the country music album chart listed Merle Haggard’s ‘Okie from Muskogee’ at number one. Haggard was also awarded Single of the Year for ‘Okie from Muskogee’, and the album won the award for Album of the Year in 1969.


Jumping ahead to May 7th, 1987, Randy Travis found his second album ‘Always and Forever’ a top the country music album chart. The same album featured four different singles that all reached number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. Those singles are: ‘Too Gone Too Long’, ‘I Won’t Need You Anymore’, ‘Forever and Ever, Amen’, and ‘I Told You So’.


Our final stop on today in country music history comes in the year 1994. On May 7th, 1994 Clint Black was at number one on the Billboard country chart with his single ‘A Good Run of Bad Luck’. The single featured on Black’s 1993 album ‘No Time to Kill’.
