1981 – Pete Rose passes up Stan Musial as All-Time NL Hits Leader with 3,631 hits…

On his way to passing Ty Cobb and becoming the undisputed ‘Hit King’, Pete Rose 1st had to move past Stan Musial for the All-Time NL Hits record.  Rose accomplished that feat on this day back in 1981.  After his record breaking base hit, Rose received a congratulatory phone call from President Reagan during the post-game press conference.  Rose was 40 years old at the time and we know that he had 1 more record left to break.
