Orkin has released it’s 2020 Top 50 Mosquito Cities in the United States. Believe it or not, none of Louisiana’s cities made the Top 20. We definitely made the list, though. Louisiana has too many watery bayous and rivers for those blood-sucking insects to multiple.

The number one city for mosquitos is Altlanta, Georgia followed by Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., New York City, and then Chicago. Lafayette, Louisiana did not show up on the list until number 33 with New Orleans ranking at 30 and Baton Rouge at 40.

Apparently, mosquitoes seem to multiple and ravage individuals in all parts of the United States. It is not just the deep south. Mosquitos will survive as long as they have standing water and a source of blood supply.

One summer, I spend the Fourth of July holiday with my sister at her home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and the mosquitoes were relentless. The weather was perfect, cool and dry. But the mosquito made it impossible to sit outside and relax near the barbecue pit. It could have been my imagination, but the sting seem to hurt more than usual. Who knows.

Click here to see the entire list.
