LSU Drops Series Opener to Alabama

Heading into this weekend series, it felt like the LSU Tigers could roll through Tuscaloosa and secure a series sweep. After the first inning, that seemed like a pipe dream as Alabama cruised to a 6-1 victory to open up the series.

How It Happened:

Alabama wasted very little time getting on the board with a solo shot from TJ Reeves in the bottom of the first to start things off. Later in the inning, Tyler Gentry went yard in almost the same spot.

The Crimson Tide kept rolling in the bottom of the second when John Trousdale hit a sac fly out to right field, scoring Brett Auerbach. Auerbach made it a 4-0 ballgame in the third with an RBI single to right center to get Gentry home. Joe Breaux got Morgan McCullough across home plate off of a fielder’s choice in the fifth, making it a 5-0 ballgame.

Auerbach finished things off after the seventh inning stretch with an RBI double down the left field line to make it 6-0.

Big Number: 5

Zack Hess definitely had an evening that he would like to forget allowing five runs in four and a third. It makes you wonder what might have been if Cole Henry was ready to go as the game one starter.

Player of the Game: Brett Auerbach

Auerbach was perfect at the dish tonight, going four-of-four with two RBIs and two doubles for good measure. The junior has been solid all season long, but this is a definite highlight for him.

Next Up: Saturday at Alabama; First Pitch at 3 pm
