We waited and waited and the forecast was off by about 5 hours and landfall was a bit west of the predicted landfall but we have a hurricane and his name is Barry.

Hurricane Barry was late to his own party. Landfall was expected near 6 am and was supposed land in St Mary Parish but made landfall in Vermilion Parish.

The latest on Barry as of 10 a.m. –

Winds: 75 mph
Gusts: 90 mph

Movement: NW at 6 mph, Location: 40 miles South of Lafayette.

Landfall was just east of Pecan Island and the largest threat at this point is still very large and dangerous amounts of rain.

If you still in need of supplies and staples for the pantry, many of the convenience stores in the area are closed. You will find very few open and you will also find most businesses are closed today in preparation for Barry. We know of these stores open as of publishing time, Target on Ambassador, The Burger King on the Thruway near Jefferson plus On The Run Exxon, Thurway and Pinhook were also open.

The Acadiana area will start to feel the effects of Hurricane Barry around the lunch hour today and the rain and storm effects could linger through Monday.
