Everybody loves a deal, and scammers know it.
If you receive a text that appears to be from a big, reputable company, Costco, Walmart, or Amazon, for instance, offering incredible deals, beware. It’s probably not from that company.
If there’s a link, don’t click it. Scammers are good at creating fake websites that look like the real thing. Legitimate companies do use SMS marketing, but you have to opt in. If you haven’t, it’s almost certainly a scam. If the “deal” is one that interests you, check with the company. Go directly to their website, and/or call their toll-free number.
Never click links from unknown senders. Verizon and AT&T request their customers forward suspicious messages to 7726. Make sure your devices are protected with antivirus software.
