The LSU Tigers got Aneesah Morrow back for this matchup with Kentucky on Sunday afternoon after she missed the last game against Georgia. After trailing by 12 at the half, the Tigers exploded for 23 points in the third quarter to pace themselves back into the contest and win in Lexington, 65-58.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

LSU and Kentucky got rolling on Sunday the newly renovated Memorial Coliseum and it was all Wildcats early as Kenny Moore’s squad jumped out to a 8-2 lead before LSU tied it at 10-10 shortly after the first media timeout at 4:45 left in the opening frame. LSU has had many battles in recent years with Moore and his star player Georgia Amoore, who was at Virginia Tech before both coming to Kentucky.

After one-quarter of the play, the Wildcats had a close 14-12 lead over LSU as Amoore led Kentucky with four points. Meanwhile, for the Tigers, Mikaylah Williams had 3 after ten minutes.

Kentucky then opened the second quarter with a huge run led by Amelia Hasslett. With 6:03 left in the first half, the Wildcats had a 26-14 lead. LSU had a scoring drought of over four minutes before finally busting through with 4:44 left to stop the 12-0 Kentucky run.

At the end of the first half, LSU found themselves trailing by 12 to Kentucky, 38-26. Amoore was leading the Wildcats with 12 points in the first 20 minutes while shooting 36% as a team from the field. Williams had 9 for the Tigers, who were shooting just 32% percent and 1-4 from behind the arc.

LSU opened the third quarter with an 8-3 run over the first five minutes to cut Kentucky’s lead to just five at the media timeout. From there, Flaujae Johnson scored five points, including a big three, to give the Tigers a 43-42 lead with 3:36 left in the third.

At the end of the third quarter, LSU held a 49-44 lead while connecting on five of their last seven field goals. Williams had 17 points to lead the Tigers through three quarters. Amoore continued to lead the Wildcats with 12.

Kentucky didn’t go away at home, however, as the Wildcats outscored LSU 8-2 in the early going of the fourth to take a 52-51 lead with five minutes remaining in the contest.

LSU finished strong and picked up a key 65-58 win on the road over Kentucky as they head into the final weekend of the regular season.

BIG NUMBER: 23-6

LSU outscored Kentucky 23-6 in the third quarter to erase a 12-point halftime deficit and secure the

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Mikaylah Williams

The sophomore from Shreveport had 24 points in Lexington on Sunday afternoon, shooting 10-21 from the field. She also added five rebounds and a pair of assists.
