Are You Really A Nice Person?

Are you one of the nice guys? A do-gooder? Many people think that they are a nice person but many people really are not that nice?  According to a new study, 98 percent of people consider their-selves a nice person but actually only 50 percent of us are truly good nice giving people.  Think about this for a moment and see if you make the cut.  Would you open an umbrella to shield an elderly lady from the rain? And also help her cross the street?  Or what about stopping on a busy highway to help repair a stranger’s busted tire?  Share food with a co-worker? Pay for a friend’s lunch? People who a truly nice people, donate time and resources.  They donate blood, give gifts, smile and don’t hold the past against another people.  When you are around a nice, you feel happy…Nice people are easy to talk to and studies show, nice people make a good bit of money.  Just because a person is not mean and vindictive, does this necessarily make them a nice person.

United Blood Services is urging the community to “march” up to the challenge to make an impact by donating blood in March. The only way to ensure that loved ones in Acadiana have the life saving blood that is needed, is for generous donors to donate at least three times each year. Remember, in emergency situations, it’s the blood on the shelves that saves lives. Donate blood in March!
All March donors receive a T-shirt and are entered to win a $1,000 Walmart gift card. Donate March 1-11 and you will also receive a voucher for a free snack size wing, with the purchase of a snack size wing, from Buffalo Wild Wings. Other restrictions apply and offer is while supplies last.

Donors can donate at the Lafayette Donor Center at 1503 Bertrand Drive. The center takes donors seven days a week: Monday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
As always, all blood types are needed in order to prevent any blood type shortages from occurring. However, United Blood Services there is always a need for type O negative red cells, as this blood type is most often transfused in trauma situations. Type O negative blood is the only type that can safely be given to patients of all blood types. There is also a need for platelet donations from type A and type AB donors.
Donors can also visit www.UnitedBloodServices.org the day of their donation and click on the “Health History Questionnaire”. This allows donors to complete the interview portion of their donation on-line, in the privacy of their home or office. Make sure to print your “Fast track donation ticket” and bring it with you to your donation.
Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 and 17 years of age must have signed permission from a parent or guardian. Donors receive a free cholesterol test. Donors also earn points in our “Hero in Me” online rewards store. Points can be redeemed for movie tickets, pizza, shopping cards and more at www.BloodHero.com. A photo ID is required to donate.
