It’s been the story of the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns 2019 season; they can’t finish the job. That rang true on Wednesday night with a heartbreaking 6-5 loss to Georgia Southern that saw the Cajuns take the lead twice in extras.
How It Happened:
Georgia Southern broke open the stalemate in the bottom of the third with one swing from the bat of Mason McWhorter. Louisiana responded in the fifth inning, tying things up with a pair of RBI singles from O’Neal Lochridge and Hayden Cantrelle.
Georgia Southern got back out in front in the eighth inning when Steven Curry hit a two-out RBI single, making it a 3-2 ballgame. The Cajuns knotted things up at three runs apiece with Kole McKinnon laying down a sac bunt that got Daniel Lahare across home plate.
Brennan Breaux gave the Cajuns their first lead of the afternoon with an RBI single in the 11th, but a sac fly by Noah Searcy forced the game to go at least one more inning. Handsome Monica looked to put the dagger in the Eagles hopes in the 13th inning when he lifted one out to left field, but after Curry scored on a wild pitch, Nolan Tressler walked it off with a sac bunt to score McWhorter after a throwing error by Jacob Schultz
Big Number: 10
The Cajuns have had a tendency to leave ducks on the pond and that continued on Wednesday, leaving 10 batters stranded.
Player of the Game: Mason McWhorter
McWhorter going three-of-six with two RBIs was impressive, especially when you look at the positions he was in, especially with him scoring due to the aforementioned throwing error.
