Charley Pride, a legend in country music, has passed away at the age of 86. According to a report, he died in Dallas, Texas from complications of COVID-19. He is survived by his wife, three children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Charley Pride grew up in Mississippi. His love of music developed at a young age. He learned guitar when he was a teen. In the 50s, he pursue a career in baseball and went on to play for the Memphis Red Sox. He was a pitcher. Eventually, Charley Pride was drafted in the Army. After his time in the military, he returned home and got the chance to visit Sun Studios. Pride soon was performing at several different clubs. Charley Pride’s career took a turn when Chet Atkins heard him sing. Pride was signed to a label and soon he was releasing hit songs.
During his career, Charley Pride has had 29 number one hit songs. He has been honored with the Pioneer Award and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in the year 2000.
