LCG and Downtown Lafayette to Host Inaugural Local Palooza

Celebrate all things local!

Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) has partnered with Downtown Lafayette Unlimited (DLU), the non-profit organization responsible for producing programming and marketing initiatives to help small businesses and artists thrive.

Local Palooza is scheduled for Saturday, May 22 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm in Parc International and Parc Sans Souci, Downtown Lafayette.

Local Palooza is a one-day celebration of local arts and culture in Downtown Lafayette. It aims to welcome our community back to outdoor, in-person gatherings; support Lafayette’s arts community through live entertainment, art market, and pop-up activations; and drive traffic to local businesses to give them a much-needed boost after a difficult year.

“This time last year, the state was under the Governor’s Stay-at-Home Order. A year later, we’re slowly moving toward normalcy, and Local Palooza is a small step toward reclaiming life as we knew it,” says Mayor-President Josh Guillory. “Our musicians have suffered, and this celebration helps to put the spotlight back on them. It’s promising to see our entertainment sector come back to life, and I hope our community sees this as a time to reconnect with our culture and with each other.”

Entertainment lineup includes Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie, Kevin Naquin & the Ossun Playboys, Kabuki Dancers, and more. The artisan market will also feature over 20 local vendors in partnership with the Louisiana Crafts Guild and Lafayette Arts & Fleas. Admission is FREE for all ages. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Please leave your ice chests at home with your pets. Local Palooza is a smoke-free and family-friendly event.

We invite the community to join us in supporting the more than 30 restaurants, 12 bars and entertainment venues, 12 art galleries, and 5 museums, resulting in much-needed revenue for local businesses and help stimulate the local economy. This event will also help to put a significant number of musicians, audio and visual professionals, stagehands, and visual artists back to work after COVID-19 brought events and festivals to a halt.

“DLU is excited to host their first, free, in-person event to the community since 2019 because we know that events like these drive traffic to downtown businesses and help expose Acadiana citizens to the amazing progress being made downtown,” said Jamie Hebert, DLU Director of Programming & Engagement. “We hope to see the community come out to support this first-time event and kick off a summer of fun downtown!”
