Loretta Lynn, the original coal miner’s daughter, suffered a stroke while at home last Thursday night and has been recovering in a Nashville hospital. According to her website, Loretta Lynn had just celebrated her 85th birthday. She is responsive and expected to make a full recovery. Her sister, Crystal Lynn Gayle posted a statement on Facebook referring to Loretta Lynn as a strong woman and how their family appreciates everyone’s concern for her sister.
Loretta Webb Lynn has singing country music professionally for 60 years. She was child number 2 of 8 born in Butcher Holler, Kentucky on April 14, 1932. Her road to fame started when she met her husband Doolittle Lynn. She fell in love and married him at the age of 15. He moved her away to the West Coast and he discovered that she had a singing voice. So he decided to buy her a guitar as a gift. And encourage to play and sing. So in between being a mom and having children, she taught herself how to play. Loretta Lynn eventually started writing songs based on her life with Doolittle and the kids. She started performing in Nashville in 1960, became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 1962 and by 1967 she had 16 number one hit songs.
