This week, Mustang is shining the Lundi Love spotlight on Acadiana Park and Nature Station. It is located near East Alexander Street around the corner from David Thibodeaux STEM Academy. This is the place to go the next time you feel stressed.
Acadiana Park is a tiny forest that is full of trails. There is no cost to enter. Plus, it is good for your mind, body, and soul. Studies show that walking around the woods and being one with nature reduces symptoms of stress and anxiety. It lowers your body’s stress hormone.
The entrance to the park is down a little road just off of East Alexander. When you arrive, you are going to walk through a narrow trail that leads to the Nature Station. The Nature Station is a learning center that teaches about the native plant life and creatures commonly found in Louisiana. There are bones, fossils, and posters. It is very informative. I have been to this place more times than I can remember and I still find the little set up inside interesting.
It is free to explore Acadiana Park and Nature Station. It is full of trails and bridges with interesting names. Some of the trails are on bridges and others going through the woods. And of course, you should use precaution when walking around the woods. It is a wildlife sanctuary. So there are snakes, bugs and poison ivy.
So the next time, you need to get the kids out of the house or you just want to calm down, relax and enjoy the great outdoors, head to Acadiana Park Nature Station. It’s not just for kids! It’s fun, free, and right here in Lafayette, Louisiana.
