MMM: Lunchtime habits that could make you gain weight
If you’re trying to watch your waistline, the easiest way to eat healthy at work is to pack your own lunch. Not only does it save money, but you can cut the calories a lot easier.
Some habits we all have:
- Deciding what to eat at the last minute: We usually don’t make healthy choices when we’re starving so it’s best to plan your lunch in advance, even placing the order an hour ahead of time.
- Eating with others: We tend to consume more when we’re surrounded by others that are eating a lot. Studies have shown when we eat around others, there’s less activity in the part of our brain that’s associated with self-control.
- Eating straight from the container the food comes in: Studies have shown we tend to eat everything when the food is packaged in a container. The best advice is to put it on a dinner plate (or small paper plate) and whatever doesn’t fit can be used for dinner or tomorrow’s lunch.
- Conducting meetings just before lunch: A study in 2015 shows we tend to make unhealthy choices right after stressful events. For some of us, those meetings can be very stressful!
