Kenny Rogers was born in Houston, Texas on August 21, 1938.  In high school, Kenny Rogers decided that he was going to be a musician. So he bought a guitar and started a band called the Scholars.  The Scholars had that rockabilly sound that was popular during this time. He had some success and managed to score a few hits.  Eventually he set out on his own, and began working on his own music.

In 1958, he recorded a hit song, “That Crazy Feeling,” and even performed the song on Dick Clark’s hugely popular show, American Bandstand.  Kenny Rogers went on to play with a jazz band for a few years and then a folk pop band before finally forming the group The First Edition. First Edition had a folk, rock and country style that scored a few more hits for Kenny Rogers.  The group landed a gig on a music show.

In 1974, Rogers left the First Edition to go solo again but this time focusing on a country sound. A few years later, Roger received nationwide recognition with the hit song, Lucille. He even picked up a Grammy Award for this song.  More success followed with the song, The Gambler in 1978.

Kenny Rogers has been married five times and has five children.  He is currently married to Wanda Miller and she is the mother of two of his children.  Kenny Rogers also has a pet goat named Smitty. The goat lives at his home in Georgia.  Kenny Rogers has told reporters that his pet goat helps him to relax when he returns home from a hectic tour.

Beside music and marriage, Kenny Roger is a photographer.  In 1986 he created an album called Kenny Roger’s America.  It included photos he took while traveling across America.
