The States With the Most and Least Amount Of Sleep

Did you ever really get to catch up on lost sleep. My answer would be no. It doesn’t matter how hard you try, but once sleep is missed I feel you will never get that sleep back.

We’ve all heard the pros and cons of not getting enough sleep. The lack of sleep has been the culprit for many national catastrophes such as the Challenger explosion and the near-meltdown at Three Mile Island.  Face it, most if not all of us do not get enough sleep. For those of us who work the early morning shift, it seems like we go through life either sleeping or thinking about sleeping.

I’m sure in your life you can point to a lack of sleep for mishaps or situations you’d rather forget about. Going through life sleep deprived is a dangerous state to live. A lack of sleep can put your life and others around you in danger.

The American Automobile Association says they have research which proves a night of fewer than 6 hours of sleep on any given night more than doubles your chances for an accident. With only one night of too little sleep, your motor skills and reaction times are dramatically reduced and in many cases, reactions times are reduced as much as if you were drunk.

With that said, 24/7 Wall St. conducted their annual survey of the states recovering the most and the least amounts of sleep.

The top states receiving the most amount of sleep a night are

  • South Dakota
  • Colorado
  • Minnesota
  • Nebraska
  • Idaho

The  top states with the least amount of sleep are

  • Hawaii (#1)
  • Kentucky
  • Maryland
  • Alabama
  • Georgia

Louisiana ranked #19 with 36.3% of adults saying they get less than 7 hours rest a night.
