Today in Country Music History (May 3)

Let’s hop in our metaphorical time machine and take a trip down memory lane.

Do you know what the songs ‘Beautiful Mess’ by Diamond Rio, ‘Brand New Girlfriend’ by Steve Holy, and ‘Live a Little’ by Kenny Chesney all have in common? Yes, they are all #1 singles; but they were also all written by the same man. Shane Minor wrote all of these #1 hits and the reason I bring this up is because it was on May 3rd, 1968 that Minor was born in Modesto, California.

Here’s another birthday being celebrated today in the world of country music. On May 3rd, 1977 Eric Church was born in Granit Falls, North Carolina. The singer songwriter has produced many Billboard country chart hits. Those hits include ‘How bout You’, ‘Two Pink Lines’, ‘Springsteen’ and ‘Guys Like Me’.

On this day in 1994 the 29th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards were held and hosted by Alan Jackson and Reba McEntire. Notable winners include: Wynonna as Top Female Vocalist of the Year, Vince Gill as Top Male Vocalist of the Year, Faith Hill as Top New Female Vocalist of the Year, John Michael Montgomery as Top New Male Vocalist of the Year, and Alan Jackson was awarded Album of the Year for ‘A Lot About Livin’.
