People in north Louisiana woke up to a icy winter morning today. At least 2 inches of snow covered towns between Fort Worth and Pineville. Although it looked like a winter wonderland with ice glazed trees and snow covering the ground, it turned out to not be so fun for some residents. The winter weather knocked out power for lots of people.
According to CLECO, a local power company, crews are currently working to restore power to 4,300 residents. The heavy snow and ice caused tree limbs to become brittle and break damaging power lines and equipment.
The majority of the outages are in north and central Louisiana. If you see a downed power line, assume it is a live wire and report it by calling 1-800-622-6537 and also call 911.
Portable generators should be operated in a well-ventilated areas. Never plug a generator into a wall outlet.
