After a 25-year career with the Carencro High School Golden Bears, head coach Tony Courville has decided it’s time to walk away.
The Acadiana coaching legend had two separate stints with the Bears, including capturing a state championship in 2020.
Shortly after the news of Courville’s retirement was announced by the school, it was also announced that the Bears had his replacement in the building: offensive coordinator Gavin Peters.
“It’s an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to lead one of the most iconic football programs in the state of Louisiana,” Peters said. “I was blessed and fortunate 6 years ago with the opportunity to come to Carencro High School and I’m grateful that we get to continue what we started. This program is widely known and well respected and all of us (coaches, players, parents, community members) that are a part of it have the responsibility to keep it going.
Now with Peters at the helm, the Bears will look to continue their success from recent seasons especially on the offensive side of the football.
