Paul Mainieri can add another name to the list of former Tigers, that he coached, to receive a Major League call-up. Former LSU pitcher Ryan Eades got his call-up from the Minnesota Twins over the weekend, and Eades pitched two scoreless relief innings in his MLB debut.
Eades was a second round selection by the Twins in 2013, and he is the 16th LSU player coached by Paul Mainieri to reach the big leagues. Eades was a member of the LSU team from 2011 to 2013 and he helped lead the Tigers to a CWS appearance in 2013 and the SEC Championship in 2012.
The other Mainieri-coached LSU players to reach the major leagues are infielder JaCoby Jones, infielder Alex Bregman, infielder Ryan Schimpf, pitcher Nick Goody, outfielder Mikie Mahtook, pitcher Nick Rumbelow, pitcher Aaron Nola, pitcher Louis Coleman, pitcher Charlie Furbush, pitcher Ryan Verdugo, infielder DJ LeMahieu, pitcher Anthony Ranaudo, pitcher Kevin Gausman, infielder Matt Clark and outfielder Andrew Stevenson.
LSU has had at least one former player make his MLB debut in 26 of the past 29 seasons. The Tigers have produced a total of 74 Major Leaguers during their illustrious baseball history.
