The Cajun Market Donut Company is honoring veterans and families with free donuts! No purchase necessary. National Donut Day is Friday, June 3rd and at all four locations the Cajun Market Donut Company will be away a free donut.
National Donut Day was established to remember the female Salvation Army volunteers. These “Donut Lassies” provided home-cooked meals, and of course, donuts, for soldiers on the front lines during WWI.
With limited resources, these treats were fried, only seven at a time. The Salvation Army’s Ensign Margaret Sheldon and Adjutant Helen Purviance cleverly thought of frying donuts in soldiers’ helmets.
Each Cajun Market Donut Company shop is family owned and operated by Nathan and Kayla Liebert. Nathan started making donuts at 12 years old and opened his first shop at 18 years old. Cajun Market Donut Company now has four shops, two in Lafayette, one on Rue Louis XIV, and one on Pinhook, Broussard, and Breaux Bridge. Cajun Market Donut Company products and are also available on the UL Campus at the UL Bookstore.
