Reba was born in Oklahoma. Her dad was a World Champion Steer Roper and her mother was a school teacher. Her mother was also a singer. She taught her children to sing. Reba and her siblings would harmonize with each during long car rides. In high school Reba, her brother Pake and her sister Susie formed a family band together called “the Singing McEntires.”
The group sang at rodeos, clubs, and dance halls. Although singing and performing kept her busy, Reba didn’t consider music a career choice. Reba went to college and was studying to become a teacher. But as fate would have it, music chose her. After singing the National Anthem at the National Rodeo in Oklahoma City, she was invited to Nashville by Red Stegall who helped get a recording contract with Mercury Records.
